Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been one of the key technologies that help transform industries and solve world problems. As the years pass, more technologies use AI and Machine Learning programs in factories, healthcare industries, banking, and security which now extends even to eCommerce, social media, and mobile application platforms.

However, as AI technology progresses and more solutions are developed, more variables also appear concerning how we do things; not knowing if the current resources will suffice to cater to the ever-changing needs of people. Thus, along with the unsolved problems, challenges seem unending and nowhere near enough in perfecting our systems. To explain things further, here are the top challenges of AI tech in 2021.

1. The Hunt for AI Talents

In September 2019, IDC predicted that in 2023, 97.9 billion USD will be spent on AI technology. AI continues to grow at a steady rate as more people are accepting the idea of AI and has proven its value in this modern world of digitization.

This growing demand for AI also means an increase in the demand for developers of AI tech. This is backed by stating the annual growth of 74% from 2016–2019 on the demand for AI talents. However, AI professionals who are qualified to achieve the necessary levels of AI implementation and with skills to create fully-functional systems are still lacking.

2. Supporting IT Systems

Information Technology caters to the needs of the fast-growing world. It makes life easier by developing systems that help us store, retrieve and process information. IT makes sure that the technologies and devices we use are safe, work well, and efficient.

Many IT systems can still improve. AI technology supporting IT systems can upgrade it in many ways. For example in creating layered security systems, help identify security threats and breaches, help programmers write better code, ensure quality, and optimize servers.

3. Processing Unstructured Data

Unstructured data holds immense value for a business, but many organizations are not able to yield valuable insights because it can’t be analyzed with conventional systems. They can’t be stored in a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) thus, it is a challenge to process and analyze them. Types of unstructured data include audio and video files, images, texts, web content, etc.

If through using AI and Machine Learning unstructured data can be broken down, processed, and stored as easier-to-understand analytical data, it will be easier for businesses to make sounder and more logical decisions.

4. Improving Cybersecurity

Whether it’s on private networks, cloud servers, or social platforms, hackers, when given an opportunity, will always exploit any vulnerabilities that exist in systems. Whatever motivation hackers have for doing it, gaining access and control over personal and business information will always be a loss as they can use this information anytime for their advantage.

A report from Verizon states that 52% of security breaches involve hacking, 28% from malware, and 32–33% included phishing or social engineering, respectively.

The use of AI for cybersecurity can drastically improve and ensure security in transactions as it can be taught of patterns that hackers usually use and create layered security for systems.

5. AI Tools for Marketing

The IT Crowd isn’t the only one that can benefit from AI. Marketing always keeps on finding new ways to grab the attention of prospective customers and users. They need to develop better ways of dealing with their customers and use tools that can help them execute marketing campaigns easier.

Chatbots, photo editors, AI background remover tools, social listening tools, AI expense management, and virtual reality marketing tools are just some of the good, existing tools that use Artificial Intelligence. Using AI in more areas in marketing to help collect and analyze data, make automated decisions, and target ideal audiences will drastically improve marketing efforts and save both human and financial resources.

6. Transparency

In the past, films have portrayed AI as a sentient, malevolent and self-serving entity that is always the antagonist of the story. This is because we knew next to nothing about AI. The idea has always been there, that a form of technology that can think and learn is possible. However, the reality of said idea has not always been clear. People tend to fear what they don’t understand, hence the portrayal of AI in films and books.

In recent days, AI has been presented as a tool to make life easier. And it is accessible by anyone who has access to a computer. The more people know about AI, the more trust is built around it, the more they’re going to use it.

7. Integration to Augmented Intelligence

AI and Data are important in earning an advantage in today’s world. Most likely it will be, for a part, a much bigger scheme for process automation and modernization. Some multinational companies have gone virtual with their training simulations and boardroom meetings, using augmented reality to teach trainees. Of course, this will not just be for the employees’ benefits, but for everyone as well. Through augmented intelligence and AI, designers can develop more ways for people to communicate, collaborate, and even create tools for entertainment.

8. AI Integration with Cloud

Cloud solutions are also in demand in today’s society. Cloud lessens the burden of storing data and files on your device. Instead, it allows to store them in pools or online data centers, or better known as “clouds”. The integration of AI to cloud solutions will make the system’s operations much faster as it can go through and manage the massive amount of data in the cloud. This again, allows for the system to focus on more important tasks.

9. Improving Speech and Text AI

If you’re an eCommerce shop, you have to deal with a lot of reading. Feedbacks, customer/client feedback, and transactions, concerns, reports, etc. With Speech and Text AI, a lot of the mundane tasks that most companies have to go through are going to be dealt with by AI. AI can also reach your contacts to send them reminders and other important messages. AI can also translate texts from different languages to the ones that you understand. Speech and text AI works for different kinds of users, not just businesses.

10. Established AI Ethics

However great a thing AI is, it is not free from the possibilities of abuse and other nefarious deeds. AI has gone from a topic of fiction to a livable reality, and with that, it has to abide by the rules set up by society.

The key to AI being accepted by everybody is the transparency of data and fairness in algorithms. These are the biggest issues that AI needs to tackle. Ethics needs to be discussed further in the development of AI tech, as again, people tend to fear what they don’t quite understand. The possibilities of AI making life much better are limitless, people just need to see how it makes life better.

Wrapping Things Up

It is clear that AI has a lot of uses and that list is still growing. AI will provide a lot of solutions and services to software and other elements of IT. Paired with data analytics, it will assist a lot of companies and individuals offering it a lot of support.

So it comes as no surprise that 2021 will hold more surprises and new trends to follow in the field of AI. However, huge changes always come with a dichotomy of choices. Is AI a good thing, or is it a bad one? Should we integrate it into everyday life? Which is the lesser evil, a world with or without AI? As important as these questions may be, it is wise to remind ourselves that these decisions are not black and white. Change is inevitable, whether you like it or not. Let us not give in to the fear of possibilities. Instead, we should focus on studying the future of this great benefit to our society.
