Artificial Intelligence and Human Awareness
Everyday we hear about AI breaking through in more and more industries, slowly pervading almost every aspects of our life: while media give coverage to incidents when AI going wrong (comically or spooky), governments across countries debate around introducing AI into national legislation to regulate automation taking over jobs, self-driving cars, medical diagnosis tools or more simply AI components acquiring data from any new gadget we buy.
Surrounded by this buzz, the feeling is that in a couple of decades, AI will take over and humans will have nothing to do, either extinguishing in poverty or chatting all day long, “imprisoned” by social media!
In reality, these scenarios do not take into account the ability of our species to evolve and adapt to changes. The fact is that more we apply AI in all its forms, more it is clearly emerging that AI applications can handle only tasks they can be designed for and therefore, even if carefully crafted, there will be always not “anticipated” situations that will put the systems out of control and that will require human awareness to be managed.
