In my recent article, A New Era for Passive Income, I talked about how there has been a shift in the way people are earning a passive income these days.

Social Media platforms are now rewarding us to create content on their sites.

This is especially true since the rise of Tiktok short-form videos, which have pushed Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to launch their own creator programs in order to incentivise users to create short-form video content on their platforms.

But did you know Pinterest has its own program?

Pinterest is encouraging users to make use of their Idea Pins feature, which is just another type of short-form video content, posted among multiple pages.

Think of it as combining Tiktok’s short-form videos and Snapchat stories, and BAM you’ve got Idea Pins, organised according to a specific topic.

Pinterest currently offers two rewards programs for creators:

1. Pinterest Creator Rewards

Pinterest Creator Rewards is a program for creators on Pinterest to earn money by creating original Idea Pins. It’s only available through the Pinterest app, version 9.33 or higher, and you need to have a business account. More requirements are listed below.

2. Pinterist Creator Fund

In order to increase the diversity of Pinterest creators, they have also introduced the Pinterest Creator Fund which is focused on growing underrepresented creators such as disabled people or people of colour.

At the time of writing this, applications are currently closed for the Creator Fund. It only opens at certain times of the year. But don’t worry, you can still join the Pinterest Creator Rewards program, keep reading to find out more.

How the Pinterest Creator Rewards program works

Pinterest posts monthly reward goals, and creators must participate by creating an Idea Pin in response to each goal.

Each goal will include the requirements and payout amount.

The more goals you fulfil, the more you can earn.

But does it really work?

Medium writer, Jenn Leach, wrote about her experience participating in the Pinterest Creator Rewards Program.

In her Medium story, Jenn revealed that she made $900 during her first month.

The goal was called “setting up for success,” and it describes that they will pay $300 per Idea Pin with 3 or more comments.

Because she posted 3 and earned $300 per Idea Pin, she made $900.

Eligibility for the Pinterest Creator Rewards program

Unfortunately, the Pinterest Creator Rewards program is currently only available for US residences as it’s still in its testing stages.

However, if you are reading this at a later date, these requirements could have changed so definitely head over to Pinterest to see if anything has changed.

Other requirements include:

  • Use the Pinterest app on your mobile phone.
  • Be 18 years or over
  • Be a legal resident of, and located in, the United States or the District of Columbia
  • Have at least 250 followers
  • Have created at least 3 Idea Pins in the last 30 days
  • Have 150 saves of your published Pins in the last 30 days
  • Create original content

How to apply for the Pinterest Creator Rewards program

If you’re eligible, you’ll be able to see and tap the “Get started” tab through the Pinterest app.

Follow these instructions to start earning on your Pinterest account:

Log into your Pinterest account > tap your profile picture > tap “creator hub” > and tap “earn.”

And start earning!

Should you join the program? Absolutely!

Absolutely yes! I’ve read and watched quite a few success stories from people who are enrolled in the programme, and it seems to be quite a profitable source of passive income for them.

I would love to include all of the different success stories, but this story would be too long (and probably get boring!).

Unfortunately, I don’t meet the requirements to join the porgram as I live outside of the US. But if you are eligible to join, definitely take the opportunity and try it out for a couple of months.

And if you aren’t eligible either. Don’t let that get you down! There are so many other apps offering creator rewards. It just means you have more time to focus on opportunities on other platforms!

I’m just glad so many of these big platforms are starting to recognise the important part all creators, big and small, play in their business model.

If you are interested, I have an article about the different platforms that pay you to post. Check it out here:
