Self Reflection

Self Reflection and self-discovery are the processes of making oneself accountable, learning more, and understanding one’s strengths, weaknesses, likes, and interests. Self Reflection is done to observe our activities in such a depth that we get to know what we are as humans and what we are really doing, what we intend to do and whether it’s a societal influence.

While sitting in a corner and watching the show of life as a spectator, a random thought made me anxious, what am I really being what I have been created for? Am I really doing what I have intended to do? Am I being myself or am I a result of my family’s and societal influence? Do I really like doing what I am doing today or I am just following society’s norms and living a typical life like thousands of others do, without knowing themselves? If I am unique, am I really living a unique life? This random thought made me anxious and raised a lot of questions that I didn’t have answers to.

Self Reflection is the process of questioning yourself and getting deep inside yourself, learning more about yourself. We usually question others in our surroundings, our family, friends, and society, but we never question ourselves, we never wonder that we might be wrong at some point. Self Reflection is the process of observing our activities, whether we are supporting the right side or the other and to ask ourselves, “Am I in the right place and moving with the required pace? Am I pushing myself too much or am I being too lazy? Overall, am I today what I am supposed to be?”

Self-reflection is the process to know ourselves inside and out of our personality, we get to find out our strengths and weaknesses along with the reasons. And what are the factors that are making us happy, what are the parts that we are not happy but rather disappointed about?. Sometimes we get used to living in hurdles and problems without knowing, self-reflection is what makes us realize the problems we are in and it makes us formulate the solutions.

It makes us ponder on what our likes and dislikes are, why we don’t like something, and why we are attracted to something so much. And most importantly, are we doing what we really wanted to do what or are we just doing it all out of social influence and other external and emotional factors?

Self-reflection makes us understand what skills we possess and what we need to improve based on our current circles in every aspect. It makes us wonder if we are satisfied with our current state of life and what main achievements we are proud of and what and where we should improve.

For instance, let’s suppose that we are continuously working on some task or project which isn’t going anywhere. We keep working hard and keep pushing ourselves. However, instead of pushing hard, we should stop to take a deep breath and say that it’s time to take a break, smile and ask ourselves a simple question, “Is it the right way to do it? Am I on the right path?” Because the wrong way will never take us to the right destination.

Self-reflection is a difficult task to do in the beginning because it challenges our illusions that we have been living in, we feel scared to question ourselves because it might break our illusions. Our illusions of being right, illusions of being in the right direction, the illusion of being strong.

It is important to self reflect to understand and get to know ourselves, it’s a process to find the problem in depth and ultimately, to find a solution to fix it.
