This is the second post in a series of three on Topological data analysis (TDA). TDA is an exciting and relatively new data science tool that looks at the shape of data. The first article of this series gave an accessible introduction to the topic. In this post, I will dive into a specific technique under the umbrella of TDA called the Mapper algorithm. I will start by describing how the approach works, then walk through a concrete example of using Mapper to analyze S&P 500 data.
