Right now, I am a young investor with a lot of ambition, but someday I hope to be an accredited investor. For those who don’t know, an accredited investor has either $1 million dollars in assets or $200,000 in income. Reaching the accredited investor threshold opens up a lot of interesting investment opportunities.

Broadway Investing

Minimum Investment: $12,500

Broadway investing is a way to directly invest in Broadway shows and share in the profits of shows. Although some shows do not make enough money to pay the investor back, there are shows (such as Hamilton) which would increase an investor’s investment many times over. This investment would also be suitable for theater snobs as the investment includes many special invites to cast parties and special events.

Equity Zen

Minimum Investment: $10,000-$50,000

Ever wanted to buy stock in Uber or Pinterest only to realize that these companies aren’t listed on the stock market? Equity Zen is a way to buy equity in private companies. Not only is private equity a way to diversify from traditional stocks and bonds, but over the long-term, many people believe private equity has a higher average return than the stock market.

SharesPost

Minimum Investment: $2,500

SharesPost is similar to Equity Zen in that they are both platforms for buying equity in private companies. SharesPost does look like it has more companies possible to invest in. They also have a closed-end fund as a way to diversify into many private companies.

Equidate

Minimum Investment: $50,000

Equidate is the third player for private equity marketplaces. It has equity for companies you know and love such as Airbnb, SpaceX, Robinhood, WeWork and Coinbase.

Trial Funder

Minimum Investment: $2,500

Trial Funder is a way to invest in plaintiff litigation. This means that you put up money to help with the legal costs of a case, and get to share in a return of the payout. They are promising returns of up to 90%!

Yield Street

Minimum Investment: $5,000

Yield Street offers a variety of asset-backed loans varying from plaintiff litigation (like Trail Funder) to Real Estate debt to loans backed by a dry bulk ship. They have a lot variety! One of the reasons I like Yield Street is that all their investments are backed by assets, so that if they awry, you still have something to get paid back with.
